When the great songwriters of rock and roll are lauded, familiar names crop up every time- Dylan, Ray Davies, Beatles, Stones, etc. And who do those guys hang out with?

Tom Petty.

And after watching the enjoyable- if way too long- “Running Down A Dream“, you begin to understand why. Not only has this guy churned out 30 years of memorable songs, he’s done it while standing his ground against the record industry, band mates, and arson. When you learn the story behind his willingness to walk away from his career rather than give up his songs, it makes you appreciate the classic “Damn the Torpedoes” album even more.

And unlike the experience of watching the Eagles reunion show- where you know every song and hate yourself for it- I bet you there is a Petty song that reminds you of a good moment in your life.
