Ok, lets see how they sidestep this one…

Monday, January 31st, 2005

WASHINGTON – A federal judge ruled Monday that foreign terror suspects held in Cuba can challenge their confinement in U.S. courts and she criticized the Bush administration for holding hundreds of people without legal rights.

So, how will the Bush Administration sidestep this latest ruling? Probably by ignoring it, as they have all the rest of the judgments against never-ending jailing of people without charging them. More here.

Different People Do Different Things

Sunday, January 30th, 2005

As promised, an early fiction work.

Michael didn’t start out to do any of it, but who would, unless they faced the same circumstances and even then maybe most people wouldn’t react like he had, he guessed. But sitting in a holding cell surrounded by the dregs of society he sure felt funny. That sort of funny you feel when you say a word around a group of people and when they all laugh you discover that you have been saying it wrong for years, and you go around for the rest of the day feeling, well, funny.

More Gore

Saturday, January 29th, 2005

From Gore Vidal in the Independent:

Symbolically, it’s interesting that regions of the US are rejecting Darwin and evolution. I can see why. We have a substantial minority in the US that hasn’t advanced much beyond the baboon. These ignorant folk are full of hatred, which is why they are currently rejecting evolution and going back to the stone age with torture, killing innocent people, attacking countries that have done us no harm. This is insupportable.

Iraqi farmers can’t save seeds. Have to purchase from American suppliers.

The Ultimate War Crime: Breaking the Agricultural Cycle

Ok, just in case someone isn’t following along,

End of story. You deprive people from doing with their property what they wish, that is not a free country. And controlling the means of people feeding themselves, well, that is a frankly disgusting display of American greed and a war crime.

Karma is gonna so kick our ass.

Oh yeah, all on track for democracy

Nice. People fleeing the cities, rather than be near polling places. From the great Dahr Jamil:

With the “elections” just three days away, people are terrified. Families are fleeing Baghdad much as they did prior to the invasion of the country. Seeking refuge from what everyone fears to be a massive onslaught of violence in the capital city, huge lines of cars are stacked up at checkpoints on the outer edges of the city.
