When the governor of your state hires a criminal attorney.

If you haven’t been following “Coingate” ongoing in Ohio, read up. The state that gave the presidency to goofus is in a world of hurt.

And having spent a hellish week in Mansfield, I feel justified in saying “Good”.

Let us by all means study these “actors” who shape history to fit their ideological agenda: let’s trace their movements, document their deceptions, and follow the path all the way back to their origins as a conspiracy against the peace. If they broke the law - and the trust of the American people - then they deserve to be brought to justice.

The dead are owed that much.

U.S. accused of hampering Saddam probe
Associated Press

BRUSSELS, Belgium – Iraq’s justice minister accused the United States today of trying to hinder the Iraqi investigation of Saddam Hussein by limiting his access to interrogators, and said “it seems there are lots of secrets they want to hide.”

Take this to the bank. He will either never stand trial, or if he does, it will be in secret, with most testimony not released to the public. His own lawyer doesn’t know where his client is half the time. The U.S. doesn’t want Saddam talking in open court. No way.

Time to Impeach a War Criminal

The Downing Street memo confirms what many had already suspected - George W. Bush is an out-and-out liar who intentionally misled the American public, the U.S. Congress and our allies.

I, for one, don’t want a liar as my President. I don’t want a man who is willing to send 1700-plus Americans to their deaths in a war based on lies running what used to be the greatest nation on earth.

Keep hearing this word more and more. Things might happen after the ‘06 elections. So hold your nose and vote Democrat. Just this once.

If you’re not doing anything wrong…

Your ISP as Net watchdog

Declan McCullagh

The U.S. Department of Justice is quietly shopping around the explosive idea of requiring Internet service providers to retain records of their customers’ online activities.

Data retention rules could permit police to obtain records of e-mail chatter, Web browsing or chat-room activity months after Internet providers ordinarily would have deleted the logs–that is, if logs were ever kept in the first place. No U.S. law currently mandates that such logs be kept.

Of course, as you read the article, the magic phrase appears…”for the children”. Ugh.

War on Terra more costly than Korea

U.S. spending on Iraq may soon surpass Korean War budget

Lawmakers in the United States were scheduled to vote on Monday to approve $45 billion US in additional funding for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, making the recent Middle East foray more expensive than the entire Korean War.

Since the Sept. 11 attacks, Congress has approved $350 billion, mostly for combat and reconstruction in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The amount, which includes $82 billion approved last month, is equal to the total amount in today’s dollars spent on the Korean conflict from 1950-53.

Of course, we haven’t left Korea either.

STUFF TO DO
to help stop the war

Stan Goff

The Bush administration carries on with a brave face - being far removed itself from the smell of burning vehicles and bleeding bodies - secure in the knowledge that they cannot and will not have to run for re-election. The polls that show 60 % of Americans now believing the war was wrong have no effect on them, because they are securely situated in power, and they can continue for the next 3.7 years to roll the dice in Iraq with other people’s lives and hope for a miraculous breakthrough.

But there are 435 House and 35 Senate seats that could be contested in 2006, and many of them also staked their futures on this war, and they are watching these poll numbers with very grim faces indeed. Many are beginning to feel a little like the ballroom dancers on the Titanic, and while they praised her virtues yesterday, the icy fingers of self-preservation are clutching at their hearts and vanquishing superficial loyalties.

Wise words.

Land Study on Grazing Denounced
Julie Cart Times Staff Writer
Sat Jun 18, 7:55 AM ET

The Bush administration altered critical portions of a scientific analysis of the environmental impact of cattle grazing on public lands before announcing Thursday that it would relax regulations limiting grazing on those lands, according to scientists involved in the study.

A government biologist and a hydrologist, who both retired this year from the Bureau of Land Management, said their conclusions that the proposed new rules might adversely affect water quality and wildlife, including endangered species, were excised and replaced with language justifying less stringent regulations favored by cattle ranchers.

I’m sure it would be easy to chart, but my gut feeling is, if a choice is to be made between big business and ANYTHING else- the environment, our laws, and us, the citizens, Bush picks big business, everytime. This is yet another example. Fits nicely with the stooge from ExxonMobil rewriting the global warming report the other day.
