Judge Dismisses Phone Records Lawsuit

By MIKE ROBINSON

CHICAGO (AP) - Citing national security, a federal judge Tuesday threw out a lawsuit aimed at blocking AT&T from giving telephone records to the government for use in the war on terror.

“The court is persuaded that requiring AT&T to confirm or deny whether it has disclosed large quantities of telephone records to the federal government could give adversaries of this country valuable insight into the government’s intelligence activities,” U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Kennelly said.

Kennelly ruled in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois on behalf of author Studs Terkel and other activists who said their constitutional rights were violated because of a National Security Agency program of gathering phone company records.

Justice Department attorneys had argued it that would violate the law against divulging state secrets for AT&T to say whether it had provided telephone records to the supersecret spy agency.

The ACLU argued that the practice was no longer secret, because numerous news reports had made it clear that phone records had been given to the agency.

Security my ass. Nixonian grade tyranny, more like it.

SYDNEY, Australia - The Comanchero Motorcycle Club is auctioning off a day in the life of a biker, including a visit to the infamous site of a shootout with a rival gang that left six people dead.

The club has advertised the chance to spend eight hours with three or four Comancheros on their Harley Davidsons in Sydney on internet auction site eBay, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

Sen. Inhofe Compares People Who Believe In Global Warming To ‘The Third Reich’

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) is the nation’s most prominent global warming denier. He famously declared that global warming is “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.” Now, he’s taken the argument a step further. In an interview with Tulsa World, Inhofe compared people who believed global warming was a problem to Nazis:

In an interview, he heaped criticism on what he saw as the strategy used by those on the other side of the debate and offered a historical comparison.

“It kind of reminds . . . I could use the Third Reich, the big lie,” Inhofe said.

Just a friendly idiot alert from TTP. You’re welcome.

I don’t want email from my dryer.

Washers and dryers that link wirelessly to Internet-connected home networks are being tested by consumers who are receiving updates on their dirty laundry via cell phones, computers and TV sets.

Messages not only indicate when a wash is complete but also can warn that a lint filter is clogged or a load is too large. Users can remotely command the machines to fluff dry clothes or start a load from a distance after being told — oops — they forgot to start the wash.

Kill me now.

Buckley finds himself parting ways with President Bush, whom he praises as a decisive leader but admonishes for having strayed from true conservative principles in his foreign policy.

In particular, Buckley views the three-and-a-half-year Iraq War as a failure.

“If you had a European prime minister who experienced what we’ve experienced it would be expected that he would retire or resign,” Buckley says.

An adviser to President George W. Bush wants the White House Counsel’s office to be “beef[ed] up” in case a possibly Democratic controlled House pursues a “tangle of investigations,” according to a Time Magazine web exclusive.

Near the end of an article about how “the crisis in Lebanon has dragged the Administration into the role of potential peacemaker,” Time’s Mike Allen reports that the Administration’s “outlook” for the midterm elections reads “ominous” for the Republican Party and for President Bush.

Ok, WTF?

In the last few days, we’ve been treated to the spectacle of our “president” in public.

Clearly, someone needs to page Colonel Richard Tubb. Whatever meds King George is on, they ain’t working. Up the dose, or lock his silly ass away, before he starts drooling and fondling himself in public. Geez. This is embarrassing.

Also, if you’d like to see the medical history of our fearless leader, try this. Interesting stuff.
