Rove threatens Ohio GOP consultant to “Take the fall for election fraud”
Friday, July 25th, 2008Rove Threatened GOP IT Guru If He Does Not ‘Take the Fall’ for Election Fraud in Ohio, Says Attorney
Letter Sent to Attorney General Mukasey Requesting ‘Protection for Mr. Connell and His Family From This Reported Attempt to Intimidate a Witness’ After Tip from ‘Credible Source’
Karl Rove has threatened a GOP high-tech guru and his wife, if he does not “‘take the fall’ for election fraud in Ohio,” according to a letter sent this morning to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, by Ohio election attorney Cliff Arnebeck.
Connell and his firm are currently employed by the John McCain campaign, as well as the RNC and other Republican and so-called “faith-based” organizations.
In a phone call this afternoon, Arnebeck could not publicly reveal specific details of the information that triggered his concern about the threats to Connell. The message to the IT man from Rove is said to have been sent via a go-between in Ohio. That information led Arnebeck to contact Mukasey after he found the reports to be credible and troubling.
Karl Rove pledged a permanent Republican majority. Instead we got a banana republic. Lock this criminal up.
Do it, and I’ll never touch a ten spot again
Friday, July 25th, 2008Norquist: Time is right to put ‘Reagan on the $10 bill.
In 1997, conservative anti-tax activist Grover Norquist initiated the Reagan Legacy Project, which sought to “name something — a stadium, a stretch of turnpike, anything — after Reagan in every state in the union.” Another proposal favored by the group is to have “Reagan’s image replace that of Alexander Hamilton, the nation’s first treasury secretary, on the $10 bill.” Speaking to the Washington Examiner yesterday, Norquist suggested that the time is right to push that project again. “It sounds like a good time to re-start the conversation about getting Reagan on the $10 bill,” said Norquist. “I don’t know why the Bush administration has dropped the ball on this.”
Nifty! Can we replace “In God We Trust” with “Proud leader of Iran Contra”? Or “October Surprise!”? Maybe a nice image of him opening his presidential bid, blathering about state’s rights symbolically atop the graves of civil rights workers in Philadelphia, Mississippi?
Reagan was a racist creep who no more deserved the office of president than does my dog. Put his teflon mug on a ten dollar bill, and I’ll burn the f’n things.
This is insane!
Friday, July 25th, 2008Jilted bride wins $150,000 from ex-fiancé
A Hall County woman who sued her ex-fiancé for calling off their wedding has been awarded $150,000 by a jury, according to a WSB-TV report.
RoseMary Shell said she moved to Hall County from Florida, leaving behind a high-paying job, to join Wayne Gibbs. She also said that she has suffered emotionally and financially since their break-up in 2007.
Gibbs said he paid off $30,000 of Shell’s debt during their engagement and also took her on trips. When he found out Shell had even more debt, he canceled the wedding. He notified her by leaving a note in their bathroom.
The jury awarded Shell the $150,000 Wednesday.
“People shouldn’t be allowed to do that and hopefully he’ll think twice before he does it to someone else,” Shell told WSB.
Ok, granted. The note in the bathroom? Harsh, no doubt.
But lady? “People shouldn’t be allowed to do that”? What, you wanted him to marry you anyway?
Remember the name RoseMary Shell, any of you out there on the hunt.
Reminded yet again of the morons among us
Thursday, July 24th, 2008From our local radio station’s poll of the day:
Barack Obama’s campaign says the satirical New Yorker magazine cover is “tasteless and offensive.” John McCain is calling the cover “totally inappropriate.” Agree or disagree?
Agree 33%
Disagree 67%
Look at it this way. If you’re in a crowd of three people in Atlanta today, two of them could well be complete idiots.
Flight 93 shot down, says Gitmo prosecutor
Thursday, July 24th, 2008Gitmo prosecutor: Flight 93 was shot down on 9/11
GUANTANAMO BAY U.S. NAVAL BASE, Cuba, July 22 (Reuters) – Osama bin Laden’s driver knew the target of the fourth hijacked jetliner in the Sept. 11 attacks, a prosecutor said on Tuesday in an attempt to draw a link between Salim Hamdan and the al Qaeda leadership in the first Guantanamo war crimes trial.
Hamdan’s lawyer said in opening statements that the Yemeni, held for nearly seven years before his trial, was just a paid employee of the fugitive al Qaeda leader, a driver in the motor pool who never joined the militant group or plotted attacks on America.
But prosecutor Timothy Stone told the six-member jury of U.S. military officers who will decide Hamdan’s guilt or innocence that Hamdan had inside knowledge of the 2001 attacks on the United States because he overheard a conversation between bin Laden and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.
“If they hadn’t shot down the fourth plane it would’ve hit the dome,” Stone, a Navy officer, said in his opening remarks.
Who knew? Hagee is Moses?
Thursday, July 24th, 2008Lieberman Compares Hagee To Moses, Says Bloggers Would Have Attacked Him Too
Yesterday, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) spoke at the controversial pastor John Hagee’s Christians United For Israel Washington-Israel Summit. Lieberman’s close political ally, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), finally rejected Hagee’s endorsement in May. Lieberman, however, says he still has the utmost respect for the pastor, who once said that Hurricane Katrina was punishment to New Orleans for hosting a gay pride parade.
In his address last night, Lieberman used the “tone” of a biblical sermon. He blasted bloggers, reaffirmed his bond with Hagee, and compared the pastor to biblical figures. The Hartford Courant reports:
In response to what he termed the “pretty aggressive campaign,” Lieberman said in his speech, “The bond I feel with Pastor John Hagee and each and every one of you is much stronger than that and so I am proud to stand with you here tonight.”
Lieberman again drew a parallel between Hagee and biblical figures, this time saying biblical heroes, unlike the demigods of Greek mythology, “are humans — great humans, but with human failings.” Lieberman said that Moses had his shortcomings, too.
“Dear friends, I can only imagine what the bloggers of today would have had to say about Moses and Miriam.”
Pandering. The new American art form.
Hey CBS, we already had a complete idiot for president, don’t need another
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008It’s beyond clear that John McCain is just not up to the rigors of being a candidate for President, much less the actual job. He is a compulsive liar, a man who will spew anything he thinks the person in front of him wants to hear. His answers range from nonsensical to distasteful, and yet, nobody really seems to call him on it. As bad as that is, as stupid as he often appears, at least its somewhat legitimate; if a man wants to talk his way out of a job, let him.
So why didn’t CBS?
McCain Gets History Of The Surge Wrong, CBS Doesn’t Air Footage
During a CBS interview on Tuesday, John McCain made a stone cold error on a subject about which he claims expert knowledge: the “surge” strategy in Iraq. In an interview with anchor Katie Couric, the Arizona Republican said, inaccurately, that the surge strategy was responsible for the much-touted “Anbar Awakening,” in which Sunni sheiks turned against Al Qaeda, helping in turn to reduce violence in the country.
In fact, as Spencer Ackerman and Ilan Goldenberg have reported, the record firmly establishes the opposite: instead of being caused by the surge, the key signs of the Anbar Awakening occurred not only before that strategy was implemented, but before it was ever conceived.
Yet McCain’s error was not seen by any CBS Evening News viewers. As MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann noted (video below), “CBS curiously, to say the least, left it on the edit room floor. It aired Katie Couric’s question, but in response, it aired part of McCain’s answer to the other question instead.” (Ironically, this edit came on the same day that McCain’s campaign released a video mocking the media’s “love affair” with Obama.)
When Bush ran for President, it was easy to dismiss what he said as transparent lies- he called himself a “compassionate conservative” yet as governor he executed more death row inmates than most other states combined. You could do this on anything that came out of his mouth, and really, he was speaking to people who expected him to lie.
But McCain? Remember a year ago or so, when his campaign was teetering above the abyss, he was pawning his bus on ebay, whatever? He’d appear on the Daily Show and was somewhat amusing bantering with Jon Stewart, self deprecating and “folksy”. Well, those days are long gone. McCain is clearly not up to constant demands of the press attention he is subject to as a candidate (none of his callous advisor’s are either, apparently), yet everyday he’s out there, scrambling geography, reinventing history and blathering his “values” (which, from the moment he affixed his lips to Hagee’s tailpipe, are laughable), but for CBS to attempt to whitewash reality and not allow McCain to appear as the utter warmongering fool that he is, they are no better than Fox…or Pravda.
Now, Obama may well turn out to be just another big tax Dem- but at least he’s not an utter fool. We just lived- most of us, anyway- through eight years of a moron in chief. We literally can’t afford to do it again. Unless we or Israel invade Iran, McCain is going to beaten like a gong in November, an outcome the GOP surely knew was inevitable, hence allowing him to run in the first place. But watching him along the way, pandering, lying and snarling? It’s all too much. Can we just go ahead and save us all the hideous nonsense we’ll be subject to, and just hold the election tomorrow?
Please?
No? Ok. Then at the least, CBS? Do your fucking job- report the news.
Kudos to the duck
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008Aflac pulls ads from Savage’s radio show
Responding to ring wing radio host Michael Savage’s recent comments that autism is “a fraud” where “99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out,” insurance giant Aflac announced that it will no longer advertise on his nationally syndicated show:
“Aflac has a strong commitment to helping children through the Aflac Cancer Center and Aflac Foundation,” said a rep. “We understand that radio hosts pick on any number of targets however we found his recent comments about autistic children to be both inappropriate and insensitive.“
This isn’t the first time an advertiser had ditched Savage’s show. Nearly 20 companies pulled their ads after the Council on American-Islamic Relations launched a campaign last year urging radio listeners to express their concerns about Savage’s hate-fueled remarks. His program reaches nearly 8 million listeners each week.
Yeah to AFLAC, hitting this shit mouthed whore in the only place it hurts, the wallet. I have conservative friends who literally shudder at the mention of this horrid mans name. And the fact that he’s the third largest radio personality in the US, well, that tells me we’ve got a lot of fucking ignorant, hateful morons with just enough cash to buy a radio. I wish you all the karmetic hosing you so have earned, for letting this fool speak to- and for- you.
Our tyrant considering pre-emptive pardons?
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008As the administration wrestles with the cascade of petitions, some lawyers and law professors are raising a related question: Will Mr. Bush grant pre-emptive pardons to officials involved in controversial counterterrorism programs?
Such a pardon would reduce the risk that a future administration might undertake a criminal investigation of operatives or policy makers involved in programs that administration lawyers have said were legal but that critics say violated laws regarding torture and surveillance.
Some legal analysts said Mr. Bush might be reluctant to issue such pardons because they could be construed as an implicit admission of guilt.
“The president should pre-empt any long-term investigations,” said Victoria Toensing, who was a Justice Department counterterrorism official in the Reagan administration. “If we don’t protect these people who are proceeding in good faith, no one will ever take chances.”
And if we don’t pardon these ghouls, maybe nobody will write memos tossing the Geneva Conventions into the trash in the future. Flee from the light, rats.
