What the hell is the DOJ doing in Ohio?

How far will an already politicized Justice Department go to assist Republicans win on November 4?

I, for one, really don’t want to know.

Pennsylvania GOP Disavows Inflammatory E-Mail

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Pennsylvania Republicans are disavowing an e-mail sent to Jewish voters that likens a vote for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama to events that led up to the Holocaust.

”Jewish Americans cannot afford to make the wrong decision on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008,” the e-mail reads. ”Many of our ancestors ignored the warning signs in the 1930s and 1940s and made a tragic mistake. Let’s not make a similar one this year!”

A copy of the e-mail, provided by Democratic officials, says it was ”Paid for by the Republican Federal Committee of PA – Victory 2008.”

It warns ”Fellow Jewish Voters” of the danger of a second Holocaust due to the threats to Israel from its neighbors and touts Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s qualifications over those of Obama.

State GOP officials disavowed the e-mail and said the strategist who helped draft it had been fired.

Please, try and lose with at least a shred of dignity.

Swearing at your toilet is free speech. Duh.

Potty-mouth pay-out

A US woman who was arrested and prosecuted for swearing at her toilet has won nearly £12,000 in compensation.

Dawn Herb’s legal fees will also be paid as part of the out of court settlement with the city of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was arrested last year after a neighbor, an off-duty police officer, heard her swearing at her overflowing lavatory through an open window.

She was charged with disorderly conduct and faced a possible 90 days in jail, reports the Scranton Times-Tribune.

But the judge at her trial found her not guilty, saying that swearing was not illegal and her language was constitutionally protected free speech.

Hope her meddlesome cop neighbor is permanently off duty as well.

An observation

Friday, October 24th, 2008

I have no way of knowing this, but it makes a sort of sense to me at the moment.

I betcha there are people- older whites living near big cities, or in small, American Taliban enclaves, who have an Obama sign or bumper sticker hidden away in the garage. And I betcha, if the sun sets November 4th with a black man about to become president, they will be out in front of the house at dark-thirty, hammering those fuckers into the ground, to ward off what they fear to be a raging, pistol firing, car burning BET marathon of crazy black people in the streets, torching anything with the word “McCain” or an American flag on it. At this precise moment, they don’t care about John McCain- hell, at this point, nobody seems to care about his old skeleton- but they are positively terrified of an OBAMANATION.

Heh.

South Korea military going to court over Chomsky

SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korea’s Defence Ministry, which maintains a force of about 670,000 troops to fend off an invasion from the communist North, also feels threatened by the likes of American linguist Noam Chomsky.

The ministry said Friday it may punish some officers for harming “the military’s mental power” by trying to bring books it considers too leftist onto its bases.

Joe McCain Allegedly Calls 911 to Complain About Traffic

Alexandria (web|news) – A 911 tape, reportedly of Sen. John McCain’s brother Joe, could prove controversial for the McCain camp since the call was not for an emergency, but rather to complain about being stuck in traffic.

The call came into Alexandria’s 911 system on October 21.

Operator: 911 state your emergency

Caller: It’s not an emergency, but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95 traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic’s coming the other way?

Operator: Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (pause)

Caller: “(Expletive) you.” (caller hangs up)

The complaint call about traffic on the Wilson Bridge forced the 911 dispatcher to call back. The voice mail on the other end, appears to belong to Joe McCain, brother of presidential candidate, John McCain.

“Hi this is Joe McCain. I can’t take this message now because I’m involved in a very (inaudible) important political project. I hope on November 4th we have elected John.”

Ok, this is silly I suppose…but imagine if the last name had been Obama. Faux news would have to hire extra bobbleheads to handle the overflow of rage at misuse of emergency services.

Will Connecticut vote to go it alone?

Conn Con Con!
How we can cut ties with the federal government by voting for a constitutional convention

Once a generation, Connecticut residents have the opportunity to recreate history. This year, we can become the first state to opt out of all burdensome federal regulations by convening a historic constitutional convention.

Article XIII of the Connecticut Constitution spells it out: Once every 20 years, voters are presented with an option to reconvene. When we go to our voting booths this November, in addition to the usual election choices, we will also be asked: “Shall there be a Constitutional Convention to amend or revise the Constitution of the State?”

At first this appears to be a useless procedure. The legislature can propose amendments to the state constitution at any time. So how is a convention different?

This year, we can say, “No more!” It is time for Connecticut to refederalize herself.

Do you live in a “Constitution Free Zone”?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Probably, 2/3′s of the population does:

zone

Using data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau, the ACLU has determined that nearly 2/3 of the entire US population (197.4 million people) live within 100 miles of the US land and coastal borders.

The government is assuming extraordinary powers to stop and search individuals within this zone. This is not just about the border: This ” Constitution-Free Zone” includes most of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas.

This is amazing. Read more about it here and here.

Judge blocks retrial of war objector Watada

SEATTLE — The Army can’t retry a Fort Lewis-based Iraq war objector on several key charges because that would violate the soldier’s constitutional protection against double jeopardy, a federal judge ruled late Tuesday.

U.S. District Judge Benjamin H. Settle of Tacoma said the government could not retry 1st Lt. Ehren Watada on charges of missing his unit’s deployment to Iraq in June 2006 and for denouncing President Bush and the war.

To do so would violate Watada’s Fifth Amendment rights by trying him twice for the same charges, Settle held.

Watada contended that the war is illegal and that he would be a party to war crimes if he served in Iraq. His first court-martial ended in a mistrial in February 2007.

Kudos to a patriot.

Iraq to US: Stay inside after December 31st

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

And then get your ass out of our country:

Final Text of Iraq Pact Reveals a US Debacle

The final draft of the US-Iraq Status of Forces agreement on the US military presence represents an even more crushing defeat for the policy of the George W. Bush administration than previously thought, the final text reveals.

In the absence of an agreement approved by the Iraqi parliament, US troops in Iraq will probably be confined to their bases once the United Nations mandate expires Dec. 31.

The final draft, dated Oct. 13, not only imposes unambiguous deadlines for withdrawal of US combat troops by 2011 but makes it extremely unlikely that a US non-combat presence will be allowed to remain in Iraq for training and support purposes beyond the 2011 deadline for withdrawal of all US combat forces.

Furthermore, Shiite opposition to the pact as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty makes the prospects for passage of even this agreement by the Iraqi parliament doubtful.

So lets see. Nearly 5000 American troops dead, hundreds of thousands Iraqis slaughtered, billions wasted. For what?

To take out Saddam and his kids?

March of 2003 will be seen in later years as the beginning of the end of America, pre-9/11. No one knows what will replace it, either here or internationally, but whatever comes, it will increasingly be done to us, not by us.
