Conyers subpoenas Rove…yeah, whatever.

Invoking Obama, House Judiciary Chairman subpoenas Rove

Invoking President Barack Obama, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) has subpoenaed former Bush Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove about his alleged involved in the political prosecution of an Alabama governor and the firings of nine US Attorneys.

The subpoena, approved by an earlier vote of the House, was issued pursuant to “authority granted in H.R. 5 (111th Congress), and calls for Mr. Rove to appear at deposition on Monday, February 2, 2009.”

Specifically, it enjoins Rove “to testify regarding his role in the Bush Administration’s politicization of the Department of Justice, including the US Attorney firings and the prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.”

Now, I’m not completely certain which Fox News show Rove will appear on February 2nd, but to be sure, he certainly won’t be in front of Congress under oath discussing anything. And time will tell if Obama has a stronger stomach for pursuing the greasy crook, but one has to think that John Conyers is just wasting paper and time with these cute but meaningless gestures. Congress had a chance to stop Rove while he was committing treason and flaunting his contempt for our nation for eight years, but instead puss’d out and wrote Sternly Worded Letters instead. Congress need look no further for an explanation of how they managed to crawl under the belly of the Bush snake, poll-wise.

25% say Bush committed war crimes- but don’t want to do anything about it

44% of Democrats Say Bush Team Guilty of War Crimes

Forty-four percent (44%) of Democratic voters believe President Bush and senior members of his administration are guilty of war crimes. Only 28% of the nation’s Democrats disagree.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that Republicans and unaffiliated voters have a different view. Just 21% of unaffiliateds say that Bush and his team are guilty of war crimes, a view shared by four percent (4%) of Republicans.

Overall, among all voters, 25% believe war crimes were committed while 54% disagree.

Seventy percent (70%) of the nation’s voters say it would be bad for the United States if the former president and senior administration officials were brought to trial for war crimes. A majority of Democrats (53%) agree with that assessment.

Then don’t be surprised when it happens again, and again. There are times when I loathe our fantasy-based nation for its reluctance to face reality. Such as this nauseating factoid:

A Harris poll published last December found that more people believe in a devil, hell and angels than in evolution.

Thankfully evolution doesn’t require belief to operate- unlike our government. A nation who can’t stomach a day of reckoning for Bush and his criminal organization will one day live either under a Hitler- or a Mao.

North Toward Home
From here in Central America, you can’t see America’s “shining city on the hill,” but you can smell the dead in Gaza.

By Joe Bageant

HOPKINS VILLAGE, BELIZE — I watched Obama’s inaugural speech over a plate of rice, beans and tortillas eaten with my fingers, in a thatch roofed joint in Belize. Which is organic and ethnic as hell, but I’d be the first to admit that a bucket of hot wings and a cold sixer would have been far preferable to this slob. And right along with the Garifunas, Mestizos and Creoles there watching Obama, I had my choked up moments. After all, I’m still an American — albeit a reluctant one, and (despite the opinions of a couple of ex-wives) a human being.

But unlike most of the other villagers present, I also understood that I was watching a $40 million media production in which the highly paid meat puppets at the microphones spoke in a continuous tape loop … lip synching the lyrics of the national sing along, pointing out for the thousandth time that our new president is black, and going into detail about such things as Obama and Biden stepping out of their limos simultaneously. Wow! For the most part it was the Rose Bowl Parade, but with a speech and a dance party replacing the football game.

William Thomas Dies After 27 Years in Front of the White House

William Thomas (known to most as Thomas) passed away this morning. Thomas spent the last 27 years in front of the White House, in Lafeyette Park, protesting the inhumane policies of the US, especially the US nuclear poliicies exemplified by the US dropping nuclear bombs on the civilians of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Ellen Thomas, who resides at the Peace House. Please notify and
console Connie, who still maintains a presence of conscience in Lafayette Park against US nuclear policies.

Read more about this American patriot here. We need more committed citizens like him.

Boiling Springs, SC

A quick TTP shout out to the good people of Boiling Springs, South Carolina. A flat tire stranded us on the side of the road in this burg, and I want to thank the gentleman who stopped and gave assistance. His son is a left-handed mandolin player taking lessons from IIIrd Tyme Out’s Wayne Benson, and if the video clip he shared on his cell phone is any indication, we’ll be hearing from his 17 year old soon. And a thanks to the local Wal Mart for being open!

The simple truth

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Sadly, like all those who sell their souls to the devil, Americans did not receive what they paid for. Bush made America weaker and terrorists stronger. He did exactly what bin Laden had wanted, indeed he did more than bin Laden could have ever dreamed. The response to 9/11, of unjustified war, of torture and hatred, had destroyed America’s soul. And once the soul was gone, the body followed, rotting slowly from within, a slow decline visible in every sphere of public life, from economic decline based on untrammeled greed, celebrated as a virtue rather than the weakness and sin it is, to the complete destruction of any pretense of a viable press, capable of telling truth from lies.

Did Mengele actually make his master race?

Nazi angel of death Josef Mengele ‘created twin town in Brazil’

The Nazi doctor Josef Mengele is responsible for the astonishing number of twins in a small Brazilian town, an Argentine historian has claimed.

The steely hearted “Angel of Death”, whose mission was to create a master race fit for the Third Reich, was the resident medic at Auschwitz from May 1943 until his flight in the face of the Red Army advance in January 1945.

His task was to carry out experiments to discover by what method of genetic quirk twins were produced – and then to artificially increase the Aryan birthrate for his master, Adolf Hitler.

Now, a historian claims, Mengele’s notorious experiments may have borne fruit.

For years scientists have failed to discover why as many as one in five pregnancies in a small Brazilian town have resulted in twins – most of them blond haired and blue eyed.

Pot growers thrive in Northern California
Cash crop now accounts for two-thirds of Mendocino County economy

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. – Two hours from San Francisco, Northern California’s Mendocino County is a world away from the urban bustle. At first glance, it’s a picture postcard of the far West. But beneath its beauty lies a controversial, profitable and increasingly violent criminal enterprise.

The marijuana trade is an exploding underground industry. Marijuana is being grown in homes, backyards, even in our national parks.

Since the 1960s, the so-called Emerald Triangle — Northern California’s Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity counties — has increasingly become the haven for people looking to make a living growing marijuana.

Marijuana is the major cash crop here. A county-commissioned study reports pot accounts for up to two-thirds of the local economy.

Imagine. An industry in this economy that both makes money and keeps people well and happy. Can’t have that, can we?

Supremes strike down internet “for the children” nonsense

Supreme Court strikes down Internet censorship law

It took ten years, but free speech advocates are celebrating the demise of a controversial law they said violated the First and Fifth Amendments in its aims to “protect children.”

The American Civil Liberties Union announced Wednesday that the Supreme Court will not hear Mukasey v. ACLU, the Bush administration’s attempt to appeal federal court rulings against the Child Online Protection Act (COPA), passed by Congress in 1998 after the fall of the 1996 Communications Decency Act.

“For over a decade the government has been trying to thwart freedom of speech on the Internet, and for years the courts have been finding the attempts unconstitutional,” said ACLU senior staff attorney and lead counsel Chris Hansen. “It is not the role of the government to decide what people can see and do on the Internet. Those are personal decisions that should be made by individuals and their families.”

And in the spirit of this action TTP says…

Fuckin’ A.
