Hope is for little kids and tooth fairies

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Money is a rigged game — you cannot win by trying to buy security. Oh, you can have the illusion of it, but the price is your soul. The entire world architecture of money, beyond basic sustenance, is a horribly corrupted — especially since the advent of the “virtual world economy,” a paper and digital racket that sucks away the people’s hard earned wealth before they ever see it.

Well, I say, fuck their offerings. And screw childish “hope.” Hope is for little kids and tooth fairies. The world we awaken to each morning is the only real thing there is. And if we are spiritually, morally and philosophically intact, and humble enough to feel it and love it each day, we don’t need to hope some unseen force or bunch of politicos, or an “economy” or so-called leaders are gonna make it better for us. The orchids outside my doorway are blooming and my wife still loves me after all these years. A real gypsy taught me a song yesterday and Easter is in the air in Mexico. I guess that as a burned out old hippie and a writer, I cannot imagine anything else to hope for.

Get ’em Joe.

FEC commissioner helped RNC conceal role in 2004 vote suppression

Caroline Hunter, a Bush-appointed Federal Election Commissioner who remains in office, provided misleading statements under oath in an effort to conceal Republican National Committee involvement in vote suppression activities during the 2004 presidential election, a Raw Story investigation has found.

Legal experts say Hunter’s submission of such statements under oath is a serious ethical and professional breach which could warrant a bar review and potential disbarment. At the time, Hunter was serving as deputy counsel to the Republican National Committee.

In the final days of the 2004 presidential election, the Democratic National Committee files an injunction against the Republican National Committee in New Jersey federal court, alleging its involvement in using lists of returned mail to challenge 35,000 newly registered Ohio voters. This tactic, also known as voter caging, is historically employed to suppress votes from minority and low-income citizens who tend to vote Democratic.

Hunter was also named as a recipient on one of the most incriminating RNC emails discussing vote-caging activities in Ohio. The message included plans to roll out similar activities in Florida, Pennsylvania, Nevada and New Mexico.

Her name, along with others in the RNC hierarchy, appears on other emails as a scheduled participant in conference calls to discuss voter challenges. The subject lines on the emails are “Cuyahoga Returned List” and “Voter Reg Fraud Strategy conference calls.”

So a bunch of RNC lawyers just happened to be chatting via email about how to keep poor people from voting, well that’s special. Granted, we only have one party in this country, but the right to vote for whichever flavor of idiot is an American’s most sacred right…and one the GOP has shown time and time again to not respect in the slightest. They killed ACORN with spurious charges of vote fraud- by committing fraud themselves in their “proof”- all the while making sure only lily-white voters in the correct zip codes got to vote.

Scum.

No more beaver on the internet in Canada

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Oh, get your mind out of the gutter:

How spam filters dictated Canadian magazine’s fate

After 90 years, one of Canada’s oldest magazines, The Beaver, is changing its name.

Its publishers say it was only natural that a Canadian history journal should have been named in honour of the industrious dam-building creature which is the country’s national emblem.

But in recent times the magazine’s attempts to reach a new online audience kept falling foul of spam filters – particularly in schools – because beaver is also a slang term for female genitalia.

The publishers of the magazine – now to be known as Canada’s History – also noticed that most of the 30,000 or so visitors to their website per month stayed for less than 10 seconds.

Picture that scenario, how about?

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Rarely is there anything on broadcast TV worth watching, but this new show from British chef Jamie Oliver, “Food Revolution“, is amazing. Amazing because it confronts America’s horrible relationship with food, in the “sickest” city in the U.S., Huntington West Virginia.

Watching Oliver battle with the “lunch ladies”, and school bureaucrats intent on keeping funding by following the USDA guidelines- did you know that pizza for breakfast counts for two servings of bread? Or that french fries are a vegetable? Well, watching that hopefully will make you question your own diet- or at least start the process of being active in the choices you make- not the ones “shoved down your throat” by the American food industry.

US Drug czar almost speaks the truth

WH Drug Czar: U.S. Shares the Blame

White House Drug Czar Chief Gil Kerlikowske said on Saturday that the U.S. has a responsibility to bear when it comes to the ongoing drug war in Mexico.

Speaking on Fox News, Kerlikowske admitted that the U.S. is “a large consumer nation” of drugs and that the Obama Administration is working hard to combat the problem and “reduce the amount of drugs that we consume.”?

Kerlikowske’s comments come as violence in Mexico has continued to escalate in recent days, notably in the border city of Juarez. He says the U.S. is working to seize money that fuels Mexican drug cartels and to ”stop the flow of guns” between the two countries.

Earlier this week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton led a high level White House delegation to Mexico. Secretary Clinton told the Mexican government the two countries will work “together to solve the problems posed by the criminal cartels that stock the streets on your cities and ours.”?

Following up on a promise to support Mexico, the United States has provided the Mexican government with a gun tracking system called “E-Trace” that will allow Mexican authorities to trace firearms from their point of sale, including within the United States.

All bullshit, of course. End the cartels tomorrow if you take away the profit motive. And what the f is this “E-Trace” bullshit?

Health bill restores $250 million in abstinence-education funds

A little-noticed provision of the health legislation has rescued federal support for a controversial form of sex education: teaching youths to remain virgins until marriage.

The bill restores $250 million over five years for states to sponsor programs aimed at preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases by focusing exclusively on encouraging children and adolescents to avoid sex. The funding provides at least a partial reprieve for the approach, which faced losing all federal support under President Obama’s first two budgets.

But the funding was condemned by critics, who were stupefied by the eleventh-hour rescue.

“To spend a quarter-billion dollars on abstinence-only-until-marriage programs that have already been proven to fail is reckless and irresponsible,” said James Wagoner of the Washington group Advocates for Youth. “When on top of that you add the fact that this puts the health and lives of young people at risk, this becomes outrageous.”

Was this a sop to GOP neanderthals who believe in all sorts of fantasy-based bullshit like this…who weren’t gonna vote for the bill anyway?

Hard to believe I could have any less respect for Obama, but he managed it.

Hope and change…what exactly?

Have a Nice World War, Folks

Here is news of the Third World War. The United States has invaded Africa. US troops have entered Somalia, extending their war front from Afghanistan and Pakistan to Yemen and, now, the Horn of Africa. In preparation for an attack on Iran, American missiles have been placed in four Persian Gulf states, and “bunker-buster” bombs are said to be arriving at the US base on the British island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

In Gaza, the sick and abandoned population, mostly children, is being entombed behind underground American-supplied walls in order to reinforce a criminal siege. In Latin America, the Obama administration has secured seven bases in Colombia, from which to wage a war of attrition against the popular democracies in Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador and Paraguay. Meanwhile, the Secretary of “Defense” Robert Gates complains that “the general [European] public and the political class” are so opposed to war they are an “impediment” to peace. Remember this is the month of the March hare.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Should everything on the web be attributable?

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Uh, no:

The pros and cons of cyber identity and attribution on the Internet

From Nadia Short’s point of view, cyber identity and attribution on the Internet is “the holy grail.” As vice president of strategy and business development at General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, which supplies products and services to U.S. defense and intelligence agencies, she sees attribution on the Web as critical to fighting cybercrime.

“If we could figure out who is doing harm to us, the deterrent would be much greater,” and the number of cyber threats would be reduced, Short said, speaking on a panel at the IT Security Entrepreneurs’ Forum at Stanford University Wednesday. “We need to recognize that we need to be putting in place mechanisms to facilitate attribution.”

But Jeff Moss, founder and director of the Black Hat security conference, said there’s a constitutional right to anonymous political speech in the U.S. He doesn’t see any technologies, whether it’s DNSSEC or IPV6 that will solve the problem.

It’s called freedom of speech, and it exists anyplace…and with any method of speech.

Just ask Wikileaks how they feel about it.

Yum, that’s some tasty atrazine!

Nation’s Largest Private Water Utility Joins Lawsuit Against Herbicide Maker

The nation’s largest private water utility company has joined a federal lawsuit that aims to force the manufacturer of atrazine, a widely-used herbicide, to pay for its removal from drinking water.

The communities in the lawsuit are alleging that Swiss corporation Syngenta AG and its Delaware counterpart Syngenta Crop Protection, Inc. made billions of dollars selling atrazine while local taxpayers were left “the ever-growing bill for filtering the toxic product from the public’s drinking water.”

What? Hold a corporation liable for cleaning its poison out of our water? Accountability? What a cute idea…but I doubt it will ever catch on in this country.

Shut down the child abusing, criminal sheltering Catholic church now

Vatican Declined to Defrock U.S. Priest Who Abused Boys

Top Vatican officials — including the future Pope Benedict XVI — did not defrock a priest who molested as many as 200 deaf boys, even though several American bishops repeatedly warned them that failure to act on the matter could embarrass the church, according to church files newly unearthed as part of a lawsuit.

Arthur Budzinski, at a cemetery behind St. John’s School for the Deaf, says he was first molested in 1960 when he went to Father Murphy for confession.

The internal correspondence from bishops in Wisconsin directly to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the future pope, shows that while church officials tussled over whether the priest should be dismissed, their highest priority was protecting the church from scandal.

The Catholic Church is nothing more than a criminal organization sheltering child abusers. It’s “leaders” (what a disgusting mockery of a word) should be jailed, the church itself brought up on criminal charges in every state and country it’s ever operated, all their precious relics and gold sold on the open market, and the money given to the kids who grew up with a priests hands on their junk and then made to feel guilty about it.

They are the vilest of the vile, and if you continue to support them, then any reasonable person would have to say you support the mass, generations long abuse of children and should suffer right along with them. The west squawks about “moderate Muslims” not stepping up to silence their more destructive members, yet turn a blind eye to this grotesque abuse of power that has been occurring most likely for centuries.

Again, in case I wasn’t clear, the Catholic Church, all of its kiddie diddling scum members, and most of all, their Nazi POS pope should be in jail, the church destroyed, and all the tithes they’ve stolen from believers over the years returned to the people they assaulted. They are wretched vermin devoid of humanity, and should be eradicated from the earth for the good of all.
